About us
Founded in 1995 by Klaus Brandes and Dirk Niehoff, safetec has stood for innovation and progress in the development and installation of maritime fire detection and extinguishing systems and electronic components for nearly three decades.
Our mission: ‘Control Systems for Fire Fighting at Sea. We develop the most reliable technology to save lives in emergency’ - a guiding principle that reflects our striving for maximum reliability and safety in emergencies.
The starting signal for our success story was given with the introduction of the first microcontroller-operated smoke detection system SDS-2/6 for container ships at the SMM ’94 in Hamburg. This innovative system immediately won over shipping companies, shipyards and ship chandlers worldwide and quickly established safetec as the leading supplier in this field.
In the following years, we consistently expanded our product portfolio with advanced solutions: water-based fire extinguishing control systems (E-WATER), gas extinguishing control systems (E-GAS) and electrical CO2 fire extinguishing control systems (E-CO2). With the introduction of the SDS-48, the second generation of our smoke detection system, we set a new standard on almost all container ships.
safetec milestonesInnovation
Our many years of experience and our continuous striving for innovation have made safetec the world market leader in the field of smoke detection systems. The current SDS-72 smoke detection system, the third generation of its kind, is the first system to comply with Resolution MSC.339(91) and once again represents our commitment to innovative concepts, this time with variants A, B and C, which are tailored to different project requirements.
A new milestone in our history of innovation is the ‘Airflow’ calculation tool, which has been specially developed for the calculation of smoke detection system sampling networks. It enables detailed predictions of the behaviour and response times of individual sampling networks, calculates operating points of fan units in smoke detection systems and allows network optimization measures to be checked before a system layout is approved. In this way, it helps to make the suitability of a system layout for the requirements of classification societies transparent.
Further innovations are in the pipeline, as our goal remains unchanged: To develop the most reliable technology for saving lives in emergencies at sea. Put your trust in safetec when it comes to effective and innovative fire protection on your ships.
